True Orthodox Theology
Peter Rollins explains what I would call “true orthodox theology”:
Without equivocation or hesitation I fully and completely admit that I deny the resurrection of Christ. This is something that anyone who knows me could tell you, and I am not afraid to say it publicly, no matter what some people may think…
I deny the resurrection of Christ every time I do not serve at the feet of the oppressed, each day that I turn my back on the poor; I deny the resurrection of Christ when I close my ears to the cries of the downtrodden and lend my support to an unjust and corrupt system.
However there are moments when I affirm that resurrection, few and far between as they are. I affirm it when I stand up for those who are forced to live on their knees, when I speak for those who have had their tongues torn out, when I cry for those who have no more tears left to shed.
I wish more “orthodox” Christians would understand that their theology is demonstrated more in the conduct of their lives than in their words and statements of faith.

Just for a second,I thought I had inadvertently arrived at the wrong page. I’m still feeling the physical effect.
What a shocking statement to find here, but it is so very true, of myself and most of what we call “Christianity”.
In reading Peter’s blog, I have to agree with Kevin,”.. there is a way to unpack it that makes it less outrageous that it might at first sight appear”
Can’t imagine myself exercising such shock tactics, but, maybe that is what we need.
Action always will speak louder than words.

Those are some strong words. But, they are none the less true. If reading this doesn’t make one stop and think, nothing will.

I have a lot of room to grow as well. I’m glad that God accepts us where we are, and gives us the Spirit to help us grow.

Good question. My simple answer would be that we would live by faith – completely trusting God and obeying him. Where we fail to live by faith, we should admit it, not pretend or cover it up.
