Scripture… As We Live It #73

This is the 73rd installment of “Scripture… As We Live It“:

(This installment was inspired by a comment left by Joe (JR) on the previous passage in “Scripture… As We Live It #72.”)

And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts never venturing outside of their safe enclave because those who met in public or in larger groups were selling out to the world and being too institutional… (Acts 2:46 re-re-mix)

So we should instead gather at Jewish temples (or, depending on the location, Muslim mosques), right?

Actually, the more I think about it… the more I think this verse may blow the lid off the current institutional landscape.

According to that passage (the real one, not the as-we-live-it rewrite), where we gather doesn’t seem to have anything to do with its leaders’ doctrine — to the point where believers would gather at the central hub of the predominant religious group who denied Christ.

Not only that, but the word is proskartereo — which means we’re not just talking about people making an appearance, but people who were dilligent adherents with regard to the temple system.

You’re blowing my mind today, Mr. Knox.
