Scripture… As We Live It #100

Posted by on Apr 4, 2010 in as we live it, scripture | 5 comments

This is the 100th entry in “Scripture… As We Live It.” However, this is not a re-mix of a passage. Instead, I would like to list a few “passages” that have been quoted to me personally, followed by the statement, “I’m sure it’s in the Bible somewhere.”

The pastors/elders are responsible for the teaching ministry of the church.

God only communicates to us through the Bible today.

God helps those who help themselves.

I’m only responsible to care for the people who are part of my local church.

The family that prays together stays together.

Only ordained men can be pastors/elders.

Someone who commits suicide will not go to heaven.

The Bible is the Word of God.

The senior pastor is responsible for our souls.

I can love God without loving other people.

I can’t be part of a church with someone who believes “X”.

Would you like to add any? They must be “passages” that were quoted to you personally.

(Please read the first post for an explanation of this series.)

I once had a lady quote me “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” as being from the Bible. When I told her I was pretty sure Ben Franklin was the one who said that, she answered, “Yeah, but I think he was quoting it from the Bible…it’s in there somewhere.” Hmmm…..

‘The Bible is the word of God’

Huh – the odd one out, right?

    Or am I missing something?

    John 5:38-39, Mark 7:9-13, etc.

Addendum: Eric says that he is the one who was speaking to the lady when she said that. I think he’s right. It was about 15 years ago…..so my memory is rusty. He’s younger than I am so…

Congratulations on making it to 100!!

My contribution to words mentioned that surely must be scriptural is the crucial

“As in the natural, so in the spiritual.”

    “God wants excellence.”

“We are to wear our best before God at church.”

“No running in the house of the Lord.”

“You could say that the hymnal is an addendum to the Bible.”

“What the eyes see the heart feels”

“Sunday is the new Sabbath day.”

“Deacons aren’t to be given to wine or be smokers.”
