Scripture… As We Live It #102
This is the 102nd passage in “Scripture… As We Live It“:
Honor everyone some. Love the brotherhood those in your church. Fear God. Honor the emperor president, unless he’s a Democrat. (1 Peter 2:17 re-mix)
(Please read the first post for an explanation of this series.)
Does honor mean ignoring lies, deception and corruption?
Alan,
What do you think Peter means by “honor” in this passage? What don’t you think Peter means?
I think far too many people confuse “honoring” with agreeing with political positions. Because of this, they either act as if they hate the president, or they act as if he can do no wrong.
Tim,
I don’t think the Roman emperors (the object of Peter’s command to “honor”) were known as bastions of truth and morality.
Eric,
“Honor” in 1 Peter 2:17 is from timao… It’s used often to mean honor, respect, etc. See Acts 28:10, Eph 6:2, 1 Tim 5:3. The noun form of this verb is used in 1 Timothy 5:17. It is a very strong verb. But, you’re right, it doesn’t mean to agree with someone or condone what they do.
