This is the 209th passage in “Scripture… As We Live It.”
Nevertheless Unfortunately, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away it would be much better if I could stay with you, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you But, since I cannot stay with you, I guess I will send the Helper, who will be almost as good as having me with you physically. (John 16:7 re-mix)

You seem to have speculatively captured what may have been going through the hearers heads at that moment.
This also seems like the attitude of people today. God’s Spirit is referred to as ‘it’, rather than He or Him. People make statements to the effect that they wish Jesus were with them (well, it would be cool to meet the Person Who walked the earth as a man). People look to the sky, desperately trying to get God to hear them. Too many of us rely on our own strengths and abilities for that which God is ready to guide us through or take us beyond that which we are able.
Jesus said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you…I will be with you unto the end of the age.” He left us with His Spirit, AKA, Helper. The portion of Himself that dwells in us who have received His grace.
We can all take time to remind ourselves that the Creator of the Universe, the One Who came to Earth and died for our sins…this same One not only dwells at the right hand of the Father, but He dwells in us.
Dare I say, Wow.
John I will say WOW for yeah. We all that believe; have the very same Spirit multiplied to each and every believer to live by, so that the love of the Father can be viewed and seen, unconditional love. This spirit of truth, the Holy Ghost if i remember right would be The Father for I think Jesus said this to the Religous leaders when they said to him that there must be at least two witnesses and Jesus replied there is my Father and I. He was referring to the Holy Ghost that John the babtist said he saw descend on Jesus in the form of a dove, and heard Father say this is my Son in whom I (Father) am well pleased. This Father (Holy Ghost), Jesus are to me all one and the same, like a cherry pie cut in three pieces, yet the filling just flows right back together. Rejoice, rejoice rejoice and God is for us, because of this we can make it through anything. Faith, belief, faith, belief faith belief
