Scripture… As We Live It #223

Posted by on Aug 26, 2012 in as we live it, scripture | 8 comments

This is the 223rd passage in “Scripture… As We Live It.”

This SAWLI is the mirror image of the previous “Scripture… As We Live It #222.”

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. But, now that you’ve been saved by grace, everything else depends on you: obedience, growth, etc. (Ephesians 2:8-9 re-mix)

(Please read the first post for an explanation of this series.)

    Hmmmm. . . .

    So much of our faith and Salvation relies on our efforts, since it is obvious Jesus didn’t take care of everything on The Cross, and His death, while admirable, just doesn’t really cover it all. We need to continue striving passionately, and with great desire, to complete that which Jesus could not.

    (If I have to say this is me speaking sarcastically, then….;)yikes.)

    Since Jesus did all this for you, what are you going to do for Him? After all nothing says love like, “I did this for you so what are you going to do for me?”.

    Amazing guilt, how sweet the sound,
    that falls on a wretch like me.
    I once was lost but now I’m bound.
    Was blind but now I owe a fee.

    Twas guilt that gave me dread and fear,
    and guilt my fears perceived.
    How potent did that guilt appear
    the hour I first believed.

    When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
    we’ll quake before the son,
    we’ll surely have to give account,
    for all the things we’ve done.

    Let all God’s people say “Oh no!”

    Bob, may I have your permission to use your translation of amazing grace?

    @Tom,

    If it helps someone, then use it anyway you like.

    @Donald,
    Thanks, satire is fun!

    Thanks. It fits well in a part of my coming book (www.revisitingscripture.com/) about grace.

    By the way, Alan, I was inspired in the middle of the night by your series to add an “as we live it” for you…if you haven’t already done it…

    Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest my sort of spiritual work so you can be busier than ever before working to earn your reward in Heaven.

    [I can’t get the line through rest nor make the rest red…it gets lost copying from WORD and I don’t know HTML well enough.]

    Just a side note:

    You can easily take the song, “House of the Rising Sun” and replace the lyrics with the lyrics to “Amazing Grace”,and it works very well.

    Here’s linkage to try it yourself. http://youtu.be/bPs8oaFAxo4

    Enjoy!
