Scripture… As We Live It #254

Posted by on Mar 31, 2013 in as we live it, scripture | 1 comment

This is the 254th passage in “Scripture… As We Live It.”

For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins then why do we get dressed up and hold special services once per year? (1 Corinthians 15:16-17 re-mix)

Agreed. Besides nominal chreasters (Christmas and Easter attendees) showing face twice a year, I find it puzzling that churches always feel like this is their biggest and best opportunity to reach so called unbelievers. When I used to attend an institutional church, I saw many things happen at these services… throwing out easter eggs, shorter service to make sure people don’t get bored, different songs to the usual, dressing up, etc. I guess they think it is a good opportunity to grow numbers and such. I think they are mostly disappointed at the outcome. In my opinion, one church service is not going to have much impact on those who are living outside of community, regardless of how grand the church service is. If we want to have impact on these types of people, we need to reach out to them where they are, not expect them to clean themselves up and start attending a church service once a week.

Anyway, that’s what this “Scripture… as we live it” made me think of haha.
