Scripture… As We Live It #3

Posted by on May 25, 2008 in as we live it, scripture, spiritual gifts, unity | 6 comments

Here is a third installment of “Scripture… As We Live It“:

On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable not as important, so, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor ignore, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty apathy, which our more presentable parts do not require require even more elevation. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it those who have a good speaking ability and education, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another listen to and follow those with the greater gifts. (1 Corinthians 12:22-25 remix)

I would say that is about right. In most churches I’ve seen lately, not only do the people with gifts that operate behind the scenes not get any honor, but Pastors will pick and choose based on favortism who they will let use their gifts at all.

Hey, I think Gary and I have gone to some of the same churches!

    Alan,
I have nothing to add, dead on post of scripture as we live it.

P.S. I’ve never been a fan of any remix…and lately that even applies to scripture…

    Blessings,

    Gary (Lightbearer),

I think the “pick and choose” regardless of the criteria (i.e. favoritism) is a big problem. I wonder what would happen if pastors let the Spirit “pick and choose”… Do we trust the Spirit that much?

    Brandon,

I’m with you… the original is always better than the remix. 🙂

A SBC brother in TN. I think you’re right on this.

    C.W.,

Thanks for the comment. It seems living Scripture in this manner is very widespread.

If the lesser parts are true servants of Christ, they won’t complain that they are ignored. Serving Christ is not about me. I know that sounds harsh, but as someone who seems to often end up in the margins, I feel I can say it without pointing fingers at someone else.

‘Scripture as we live it’ is an awsome series. I love it!
