Scripture… As We Live It #54
This is the 54th installment of “Scripture… As We Live It“:
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual trained should restore him in a spirit of gentleness superiority. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted that person, because he is likely to fail again. (Galatians 6:1 re-mix)
Spirit of superiority? That seems rather supercilious to me. Why not just plug in the word “arrogance” or “disdain” instead of superiority. They all say the same thing to me.
I understand the point you are trying to make…but my question to you is: are you exposing this transgression with gentleness?

First, thank you for the question. While I do think these posts are a “gentle” way to point out how we often live contrary to Scripture, I know that others disagree. Some have said these posts are not gentle; others have said they are too gentle.
What part in particular do you think is too harsh or not gentle enough?

the entire presentation pretty much says to the reader: “you (the reader) change the Bible” which may be true but, as you know, it is an offensive way to deal with fellow believers. You should know that it will evoke a defensive response from them, and it seems very unlikely that it will inspire them to change their ways, rather it will inspire them to retaliate.

Thanks for responding. So, it’s not this particular “As we live it” that concerns you, but the concept?
Notice, first, that I include myself in these posts. This is Scripture as “we” live it, because I often write about things that I believe or live. Second, I agree that everyone will not learn from this type of post. That’s why I write (and teach) in different ways. That’s also why I don’t think it’s healthy for the same person to teach all the time, we need to hear different people and different methods of teaching.
Do you think that some people could learn through this type of post?

I can only speak for myself, but it never occurred to me, even remotely, that someone might find this series offensive.
I always plug myself into these posts. I’ve read them all. Always with a sense of humor. Because more times than not, I am convicted.
