Scripture… As We Live It #219
This is the 219th passage in “Scripture… As We Live It.”
And David said to Abigail, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me! Blessed be your discretion, and blessed be you, who have kept me this day from bloodguilt and from working salvation with my own hand! because I am David, a man after God’s own heart, anointed king by the prophet Samuel, warrior and defender of Israel, fore-runner and model of the Messiah. Why do you think that you – a common woman – have the right to tell me that I am wrong and assume that you can tell me about the ways of God?” (1 Samuel 25:32-33 re-mix)

Jesus humbled himself. So should I. It’s just that simple! All of us, including those who regard themselves as leaders, are here to serve.
David could have killed Nabal and all his men – he very nearly did. Without Abigail’s intervention he would certainly have done so. But he listened, he heard, he was compassionate, and he forgave. In the end Nabal died anyway, but not at David’s hand.
How badly we need humility like this in the church. How we all need to become more like David. Father, teach me to become more humble and to serve the people I meet in life, and to bless them, and to encourage them. Teach me to be a servant and to have the heart of a servant. Teach me to be ready to listen and quick to be compassionate, not just in the big things but in the little things too.

I usually don’t comment on the SAWLI posts, because I like for the re-mixed verse itself to be my “comment.” But, I wanted to thank you for your comment. I love the way that God showed David grace and mercy by using Abigail to admonish and correct him. I agree that we need to become more like David – more like the David AFTER Abigail pointed out his sin.
