Scripture… As We Live It #220

Posted by on Aug 5, 2012 in as we live it, scripture | 3 comments

This is the 220th passage in “Scripture… As We Live It.”

And God has appointed in the church first apostles although they won’t be around much longer, second prophets but you won’t need them after getting this letter, third teachers – you’ll always, always, always need teachers, then miracles which will obviously stop soon, then gifts of healing which will stop along with miracles, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues which will also stop – so mainly just teachers, administrators, and their helpers. (1 Corinthians 12:28 re-mix)

This had me laughing! Only because it’s so true. The red inline words you typed are the same arguments I get from certain denominations.

I’m sure cessationists wouldn’t find it funny…they wouldn’t see it as a disconnect between how they live and what Scripture actually says…just a true understanding of the progression of revelation.

Isn’t it funny how the spectrum of Christianity goes from those who believe all revelation ended about 100 AD (even though there is nothing to suggest the early writers anticipated that) to folks who believe every day brings new revelations…even ones that augment or supersede the written Scriptures?
