This is the 230th passage in “Scripture… As We Live It.”
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into pass laws that make it illegal for anyone to live in darkness instead of in his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9 re-mix)

Sorry Alan; I never misunderstand you B4…but I may this time…R U saying that because we R part of the “holy nation”, we shouldn’t B involved w/the nations of this world?..Can’t say as I’ve heard that B4…
Maybe Alan means that christians nowadays are known as opposing certain things (which they consider sin) through lawmaking: homosexual marriage and abortion in the US and sundayshopping in my country. Maybe these laws have an opposite effect, because non-christians are forbidden to do what they want to do.
Instead of christian being an example and a light that attracts the hearts of people.
I think not…the point is that we try to make people ‘live in the light’ by making it illegal to walk in darkness, quite independent of the fact that it is a result of God’s call rather than rules.

I usually don’t respond to comments on my SAWLI posts, and instead let people interpret them for themselves. But, I hate to see that you’re confused about my re-mix. The point is not that it’s wrong per se to pass certain laws or to take part in the government. But, we must be careful trying to legislate what can only occur through a transformation brought on by God through Jesus Christ in his Spirit. Also, I’ve heard many people say that this type of legislation is required in Scripture. The reason for this series is to show how we often modify Scripture (or live in a way) to make it mean something that it doesn’t really mean. I hope that helps.
