5 Things I’m Thankful For Meme

Posted by on Nov 19, 2007 in blog links | 6 comments

John started the “5 Things I’m Thankful For Meme“, and Glenn tagged me to take part. I have not read their posts yet, because I don’t want to be influenced by their thankfulness. I’ll read theirs when I finish mine. Here are the rules:

  1. Write down five things that you’re thankful for.
  2. Tag five friends who you’d like to see participate in this meme.
  3. (Optional) Include a link to this post and encourage others to place a link to their completed meme in the comments section of this post so we can keep track of the thankfulness running around the blogosphere.

So, here are five things that I’m thankful for:

  1. God’s grace: It is my desire to live a life that honors God. I desire to bring him glory and to please him in everything that I do. I often fail in my desire; in fact, I fail more often than I succeed. I think God that in spite of my failures, he has accepted me in Jesus Christ. I am righteous in him because he became sin on our behalf. In fact, it is God’s grace that I am able to honor him at all.
  2. My family: My wife, Margaret, puts up with alot from me. Those who know me personally know that this is true. Yet, she loves me and accepts me and encourages me. She teaches me more about God’s love than anyone I’ve met or anything that I’ve read. I’m also thankful for my son, Jeremy, and my daughter, Miranda. I am very proud of being their father and I’m amazed at the way they continue to grown in grace with God.
  3. Friends: God has surrounded me with the best friends that anyone could have. They have demonstrated his love and mercy and grace time after time. They have shared their lives with us – their joy and sadness and victory and discouragement and praise and hope and despair. They have helped us carry our burdens, and perhaps more importantly, they have shared their burdens with us. Beyond my immediate family, our extended family is awesome! They are the supportive and encouraging people you could ever meet.
  4. Neighbors: We are living in a great neighborhood. We do not know most of our neighbors as well as we would like, but I am thankful for them. I have seen God working in some of their lives and I’m hoping to see that continue. Through our neighbors, God has given us the best opportunities to demonstrate his love and grace.
  5. Ice Cream: I like ice cream. I realize that this is not very spiritual, but its true. I’m thankful for ice cream – especially Moose Tracks, but almost any kind of ice cream is fine with me.

Now, who will I tag for this meme? I think I will tag a few old friends and a few new friends: Lew, Dan, Steve, Dustin, and Richard. I hope you have as much fun with this as I did!

    Alan,

Thanks for participating in this. I really like that you mentioned ice cream. I think its great to be thankful for the little things in life.

I haven’t had ice cream in awhile, but I had some tonight. Ben and Jerry’s something brownie flavor–forget the name, but it was good!

Alan~ God’s grace to ice cream is an amazing list of thankfulness! I would like to thank you for your honest and grateful heart. This comes from a fellow lover of ice cream, which just may be spiritual. Happy Thanksgiving!

    Hi Alan,

Thank you for including me in your list.

Of course we don’t have thanksgiving here in the main land, I think this is a colonial celebration!!

    Happy thanksgiving for thursday.

It always looks a good family get together in the functional homes on film and tv, and a great source of scripts from none functional families!

I hope your family is blessed with abundant functionality this thanksgiving! (and maybe just enough disfunctionality to cause what we call “a chuckle in the cheap seats!”)

I scream, you scream we all scream for ice cream…

The name of your daughter, Miranda, is what we were going to name our firstborn, had he been a girl. We didn’t know it was a boy until he was born. My wife and I really liked the name Miranda, and I still think it’s a great name, although when our girl was born 2 1/2 years later we chose a different name for some reason.

    Great list here!

    John,

Thanks for starting this meme. It was a great way to prepare for Thanksgiving, although I should always be grateful to God, not just this week. And, I am especially grateful for Ben and Jerry’s! 🙂

    Glenn,

Thanks for tagging me. I think you may be right – ice cream is spiritual.

    Richard,

Thanks for taking part. I guess we in the USA can be thankful the week after next even though it won’t be Thanksgiving.

    Joel,

Ice cream is awesome… Miranda is more awesome. 🙂

    Dan,

Thanks! I’m glad you love Jesus and stuff.
