Scripture… As We Live It #32
Here is the thirty-second installment of “Scripture… As We Live It“:
That which we have seen and heard about been taught we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship church membership with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ membership is with the pastor and the denomination. (1 John 1:3 re-mix)
Quick question: did you change seen and heard about to taught because we hear the Gospel in church, but we are not out there every day of the week proclaiming it in the streets and stores and schools?
Andy,
I changed that phrase because many have never experienced Jesus Christ. They only know what they’ve been taught about him.

I had an interesting conversation regarding this verse a few months back. I work with quite a few seminary students, and in sharing a witness encounter story with them, I told them how I answered the question “Why do you keep telling me about this Jesus?” with “I can’t but help to speak of the things I have seen and heard” and the reply from the students was, “You actually haven’t seen or heard, the disciples were actually there, you weren’t, so on so forth.”
Now granted, he’s right. But if we can’t be witnesses of the power of the Holy Spirit sanctifying a believer, or saving a sinner, then we have a false testimony.
Faithful Servant,
It’s interesting that we are still called to be “witnesses”… but “witnesses” of what? What we’ve be told? I don’t think so.
