Scripture… As We Live It #211
This is the 211th passage in “Scripture… As We Live It.”
Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble that’s his problem because I’m free in Christ to eat whatever I want to eat. (1 Corinthians 8:13 re-mix)
(Please read the first post for an explanation of this series.)
In being free to eat anything, and do anything, through love to our neighbor if what we do causes our brother to stumble then we who love God because God loved us first will be led by the Holy Spirit to do what one knows to do, and if it is not led thinking that we were we will be taught the truth from this.
Also otherss can and have used the scripture in their favor, getting one to think that that one has stumbled causing our weaker brother to stumble. Things can get all twisted up and look like truth when only god can seperate the tares amongst the wheat. This is where we are to seperate ourselves from the tares, and have no connection to it. what does evil have to do with good?

What this should have read is:
If I don’t like what you do, I will say that it causes me to stumble therefore you will have to stop doing it or I will invoke this passage against you, BAM, You just got Bibled, fool!
Alex, you sure hit the nail on the head when it comes to our uppity attitudes.
Dan – can’t say I hate your style.
I always find it amazing as to how often we overlook, omit, twist/change or even pervert scripture in order to make our nasty little attitudes and actions justifiable. We read it, we seem to have an understanding of it, yet we live according to our own ways of stinkin’ thinkin’ rather than according the full counsel of scripture.
so you been there too

John thank you and I desire to live to the full ways of scripture, and live at peace with all as much as possible, only through the relationship that is given to me by God the Father of Jesus via Jesus’s finished work. Acknowledge that my flesh does not want to get out of the way so I see why Paul said he died daily.
Can’t we all just want to know Father the creator of all period

Dan shows how the passage can be used as a hammer, but it always seems that the ones who would tell you to stop lest they be offended are quite sure they are not a ‘weaker brother.’ The direction to stop has to come from the Holy Spirit and love for the one who is being tempted to violate his own conscience.
yes Tom, our Father does not go to our brother or
sister and tell them to tell us what he wants me to know, god goes directly to his Child

It might help this issue to clarify what it means to “stumble.”
EX: A fellow believer, walking along and you put out yuor foot so he trips over your foot.
The same with the thought process. My brother you, has bad thgoughts over eating foods sacrificed to Idols. You tell me about it and I ignore you and just eat right in front of you not caring about how you feel about it. this is one instance that causes others to stumble, (have bad thoughts, and possibly eat as well, yet your conscience is not clear)does this make sense?
Other scripture Romans 14:context let each man be persuaded in their own minds, and do not destroy your brother whom Christ died for verse 20,21 pretty important to this subject yet I suggest the whole chapter. Then look at proverbs 23:7.

PS, I am thinking, have you ever flaunted your liberty?, or have seen others flaunt theirs, how did this effect you? I know of others that is has offended, when I flaunted my liberty, so therefore I learned, and am still learning
