2 John 7-11 Translation

My translation:

Love is important because many deceivers are in the world. Deceivers are those who refuse to acknowledge that Jesus Christ was human. This kind of person is both a deceiver and an antichrist. Watch out for one another so that you all might not lose what you worked so hard for, but so that you all might receive a full reward! If anyone moves beyond this teaching that Christ was human and does not accept that teaching, that person does not have God with him. On the other hand, the person who does accept this teaching has both the Father and the Son with him. If anyone who rejects this teaching about Christ comes to you, neither greet him nor welcome him, because the one who greets or welcomes him shares in his evil works. (2 John 7-11)

Here is another translation for comparison:

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works. (2 John 7-11 ESV)

Do you think that it would work to replace “an antichrist” with “an enemy of Christ?”

I guess it would sound like this

“Such a person is a deceiver and an enemy of Christ.”

You never got back to me….

    Stephen,

I’m sorry, but I’ve completely forgotten what I was supposed to get back to you about. Can you remind me?

Hi Alan, I was referring to the question in my first comment. Would it be okay to translate antichrist as “enemy of Christ?”

    Stephen,

Sorry! I completely forgot to respond to that question. Yes, I think that’s a great translation!
